Dallas Cowboys linebacker Jaylon Smith says that he is no longer wearing the AFO brace for drop foot.

He said he has not worn it since he began working out again in February.

It’s nice to have that history to lean on, said Kapler. One thing is we’ve seen Hector’s flashes of his split being really nasty and getting big important outs. That confidence never wavers. He’s actually done it.

If it’s the best situation for Hector – and it might not be tonight pitching back-to-back and three out of four – but if we don’t use him it’s not because we think he wouldn’t be effective. If at any points he’s the best guy to get the three outs in the ninth inning, he’ll have that opportunity to do so.

While it was a solid first stretch in the closer’s role, his 3.01 ERA at the end of the 2017 season was nearly a half-run higher than the year before, when he posted a 2.58 ERA as one of the game’s best setup men.

Doug Pederson says he is not going to rush quarterback Carson Wentz back to the field.

Wentz suffered a torn ACL in December and is recovering from surgery to repair the injury. Pederson said on Friday that Wentz is recovering nicely, but the Philadelphia Eagles are not going to rush him back.

The closer walked three straight hitters with his fastball velocity down to mostly around 96 mph from its usual 100 mph and he was all over the place. Pitching coach Larry Rothschild checked on him once and the training staff also checked on him.

After getting an out with the bases loaded, Chapman got pinch hitter Jonathan Lucroy to hit a fly to shallow left field. Brett Gardner caught it and fired a one-hopper home. Matt Olson was initially called safe at home.
