Drew Stanton vs. Tom Savage is the worst quarterback matchup in quite some time. Now a battle between offensive-minded coaches Bruce Arians and Bill O’Brien becomes an ugly slugfest. The Cardinals simply have the better, healthier defense to keep the Texans reeling.

The Ravens will be at full strength offensively coming off a bye, and their defense also can slow down the Packers’ running game and cause some pressure and coverage issues for Brett Hundley. Joe Flacco has one of his better games with his receivers, while the offensive limitations get to Green Bay again in a third straight home loss.

The Eagles’ drive stalls and they punt it back to Dallas with 3:14 to play.

To the NFL’s credit, last year’s game in Mexico City turned out to be a great event, with an entertaining game between the Raiders and Texans to boot. This could duplicate or surpass it if both fan bases show up and show out. The Patriots are as motivated as usual and appear to have smoothed out their early-season glitches. The Raiders couldn’t be more motivated, hanging around the fringes of the playoff chase but also within view of the AFC West lead despite their terrible recent losing streak.

The debate in Dallas is about who the team misses most: Ezekiel Elliott, Tyron Smith, Sean Lee or Dan Bailey. That all four could miss this one makes the outlook pretty bleak. The Eagles are due for a good test of how they handle success, but odds are they won’t get it in this one. Dak Prescott better brace himself.

Does it mean the “Legion of Boom” will suddenly go bust without its charter member? Not if Thomas and Chancellor remain intact in the middle, flanked by Wagner, the game’s best cover linebacker. It will be sound, but by no means will it still be supersonic.sharks_158

The Eagles enjoyed a bye last week, resting with the NFL’s best record.

Ajayi has played just one game with the Eagles after getting traded from the Dolphins. He handled just eight carries in his Eagles debut, but amassed 77 yards and a touchdown.

Philadelphia also has LaGarrette Blount and explosive rookie Corey Clement, who scored three touchdowns in a Week 9 win over the Broncos. Ajayi became a proven workhorse during his time with the Dolphins, and he could soon carve out a similar role with the Eagles.

They could work out a new deal that lets him retire as a Seahawk, which would qualify him for having his No. 25 jersey retired if he reached the Hall of Fame. They could release him. What happens in free agency and the draft could affect their thinking.

For a team with aspirations of another long playoff run, managing minutes this time of year is solid long-range thinking. No Celtics player ranks in the top 45 of minutes per game this season, with Horford at No. 46 and Irving at No. 63 (31.5 minutes per game) after Monday’s win.

The thing that is cool about it is, it’s not just the player part, but the person you are getting. Kam didn’t test off the charts, he wasn’t a pretty guy, wasn’t the most athletic, but just a football player through and through, which ended up being the case with all three of them.”

Working the waiver wire is pivotal to succeeding in fantasy basketball. With so many games, injuries and endless shifts in rotations throughout the season, we’ll need to source stats from free agency to maximize our imaginary rosters.

3. Game 5 of the Yankees-Indians series averaged 7,610,000 viewers across FS1 (7,261,000), FOX Deportes (207,000) and FOX Sports GO (142,000), according to the network. The game peaked from 11:15 to 11:30 PM ET with 9,175,000 viewers on FS1. The network said it was the most-watched ALDS game on any network since 2011.

A willingness to entertain competition for the last spot or two on your fantasy hoops roster can prove rewarding, even though it’s difficult to open up space this early in the season. The final few rounds of a draft are often used for speculation on sleepers, so it can help to consider those end-of-bench players as in direct competition with the talent floating in free agency.

At one point late in Sunday’s race, Johnson was put a lap down by Hendrick Motorsports teammate Elliott.

“We were just terrible all day,” Johnson said. “Oh, what a bummer. We had high hopes for this weekend.”

WOMP, WOMP: Kyle Larson had been considered a strong championship contender until his engine blew in last week’s elimination race at Kansas. Now out of the playoffs, he wasn’t competitive Sunday, crashed and finished 37th.

“Another Martinsville for us. I’ve got to figure out how to get around this place,” Larson said. He has one career top-10 finish at the track.

The NFL trade deadline typically does not have the intrigue or drama found in other leagues.

The 49ers appear to view Garoppolo as their quarterback of the future after giving up what will be a pick at the top of the second round in 2018 to get him, plus the knowledge that they’ll have to sign him to a big contract given his upcoming free agent status.

Garoppolo in “Madden NFL 18” is already ranked in the top 30 QBs with a 77 Overall rating. His “Quick” development trait in Franchise Mode means he could become an above-average player.

Garoppolo has only started two games in his career, though, which explains why he has never been able to break out of that range where all inexperienced QBs reside in “Madden.”

Bryce Love, Stanford, RB: Love’s 10.3 yards per carry is his best argument for the Heisman. It doesn’t help his cause that his games are getting seen by a lot fewer people than Barkley’s, but Notre Dame’s domination of USC this weekend ensures he’ll have three marquee games remaining—at Washington State in two weeks, against Washington the week after and then the season finale against the Irish. He should be able to pad his stats even more next week against an Oregon State D that is No. 102 in the nation against the run.

New York took over in the third quarter and built the lead to 17 on several occasions in the period.

Sunday marked the anniversary of James’ professional debut in 2003 against Sacramento. He had 25 points with nine assists and six rebounds.

“I played better 14 years ago than I did tonight,” James said.patriots_011

The Jaguars announced Wednesday night that they have signed linebacker Telvin Smith to a four-year extension. A source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the deal is worth up to $50 million.

Smith was in the final season of his rookie contract. He signed a four-year deal worth $2.43 million with only $211,052 guaranteed after the Jaguars drafted him in the fifth round in 2014.

Brady’s signature is on the doorsill plates, and his “TB12” logo can be seen throughout the vehicle, including on the fender and embossed on the headrests.

The five-time Super Bowl champion signed a deal with Aston Martin in May after more than a year of talking to the company.

With the guidance of the company’s chief creative officer, Marek Reichman, Brady personalized his car.

Cerqueira released a statement in early August via a publicist to NFL Network, saying that she had a vocal disagreement with Landry in March and that police were called, although she did not call them.

Cerqueira also said in the statement that “there were no criminal charges” and that she “was not in any way physically harmed.”

The Dolphins’ front office notified the NFL when it became aware of the investigation this spring, ESPN reported previously. Landry was up front with the team, as far as it knows, as soon as the altercation occurred.

Under the NFL’s personal conduct policy, Commissioner Roger Goodell has the authority to suspend players without criminal convictions. The league amended the policy three years ago to strengthen punishments in domestic cases.

Chris Long is donating the rest of his year’s salary to increase educational equality. The Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive end already gave his first six game checks to provide two scholarships for students in Charlottesville, Virginia. Now, he’s giving the rest of his pay to launch the Pledge 10 for Tomorrow campaign.

Said Goodell after the meetings concluded: “We spent today talking about the issues players are trying to bring attention to. Issues in our communities, to make our communities better.”

Goodell and owners moved on to other league topics after the portion of the owners meeting concerning the demonstrations around the anthem had concluded.

Many players came away from their meeting with Goodell thinking it was beneficial. A group of 11 owners and more than a dozen players met at the league’s headquarters. Among the topics discussed was enhancing players’ platforms for speaking out on social issues.

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said the NFL’s policy on the national anthem “did not come up” during the meeting with the players, and Indianapolis Colts defensive back Darius Butler said he doesn’t think there will be any change in the rules regarding the anthem in the near future.falcons_137

A man who was left blind in one eye — at least temporarily — and may ultimately lose the eye after a foul ball struck him in the face at Wrigley Field this summer has filed a lawsuit against the Chicago Cubs and Major League Baseball, alleging that they have failed to install enough safety netting to protect him and other fans.

At a Monday news conference 60-year-old John “Jay” Loos said he has undergone three surgeries to repair his severely damaged left eye and the five bones in his face shattered by the foul ball that struck him as he sat down the first-base line during a game between the Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates on Aug. 29.

One more: In Game 4 of the other ALDS, Astros DH Carlos Beltran doubled off Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel to drive in a crucial insurance run in the ninth inning. Kimbrel is one of the best relievers ever, but at that moment he was probably compromised. Beltran hit Kimbrel’s 38th pitch of the game, his 23rd of that inning, and his eighth of that at-bat. The wear of the previous 37 seemed to show: Kimbrel’s first five fastballs of the night were 99, 101, 101, 100 and 100; his final five were 98, 97, 98, 97, 98. Still hard to hit!

Adrian Peterson, RB, Arizona Cardinals (47.5 percent): Peterson, traded to the Cardinals on Tuesday, gets the chance to show one more time whether he still has the goods to be a starting running back in this league. The opportunity is there, as Arizona’s run game has been a none factor since David Johnson’s injury. While Peterson has minimal passing game impact, he seems likely to get 12-15 carries per game right away. In a non-PPR league, especially one with 12 or more teams, he’s an add for an owner with limited options. Is there upside? Much of the recent empirical evidence says no (since the start of last season, he has 153 yards on 64 carries, 2.39 yards per carry), but this presents a chance for AD to get on track.ravens_005

Paul Richardson scored the game-winning touchdown for the Seahawks against the 49ers on Sunday — but the touchdown isn’t the most impressive part. It was what Richardson went through prior to making the play.

Richardson suffered a compound fracture of his right ring finger on Seattle’s opening drive of the game. His teammate Doug Baldwin told ESPN the graphic specifics.

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to tell you guys this but he dislocated his finger,” Baldwin said. “It came out of his skin and he’s sitting there bleeding, his bone is out of the skin. He goes into the locker room, sews it up and tapes it up, comes back out and scores the game-winning touchdown.”

The Texans enter this game with just a 2-6 SU and ATS record in their last eight road games per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Cincinnati was the only team in action last week that failed to record a point, getting shut out 20-0 at home against the Baltimore Ravens. The defense did an excellent job of limiting the Ravens to just 20 points on Andy Dalton’s five-turnover day. The Bengals had strung together five Alcides Escobar Jersey straight winning seasons from 2011 to 2015, but last year that streak came to an end with a 6-9-1 SU campaign. Cincinnati Frank White Womens Jersey is 3-6-1 SU and 4-6 ATS over its last 10 games.

Thursday night’s total is set at 38 points. The UNDER is 4-0 in the last four games between these two teams.

Houston and Cincinnati both put together two of the worst home performances of Week 1. Since 2007, only nine of the 83 teams that have started the season off 0-2 SU have gone on to make the postseason. Just four days removed from their dud games on Sunday, the Texans and Bengals will try to avoid this unenviable position.

Mitchell, a fourth-round pick from Georgia in last year’s NFL Draft, caught six passes for 70 yards. Four of his catches went for first downs, including a 12-yard catch on third-and-11 at the Falcons 26-yard line midway through the fourth quarter. Mitchell’s catch kept New England’s drive alive and the Patriots scored two plays later with an 8-yard pass to Danny Amendola to cut Atlanta’s lead to 28-20.

Just as Chris Hogan did in the AFC championship game with a franchise-record 180 receiving yards, Brady continues to make stars out of players who aren’t household names. White and Mitchell are just the latest.

There are anywhere between 64 and 96 quarterback jobs in the NFL every year, depending on how many teams carry a third quarterback, for whatever reason. Backups get signed for all sorts of reasons, and at all ages. Cook was 23 in that Raiders playoff game, Moore 32 with the Dolphins.

Don’t assume, with all of that, Young has no place in the NFL, even with all the rust he has to scrape off. Or with the very short stays he had in Philadelphia, Green Bay and Cleveland (each stay shorter than the last) from 2011 to ‘14.

Or, most important, with the ugly way his time with the Titans ended in 2010 … after a 30-17 record, a playoff trip and two Pro Bowls in 4 1/2 seasons.

Worth noting, as always: The league kept trusting Jeff Fisher, Young’s coach, right up until last year, when the Rams finally made him pay for his chronic mediocrity and poor judgment.

For Young, if the league lets bygones be bygones all these years later, all he has to do is prove he can help a team as a player. If not, there’s nothing he can do in workouts that will get him a ticket back.texans_134

When Mixon punched Amanda Molitor in 2014, he broke her jaw and left her with facial fractures. Mixon was charged with a misdemeanor and sentenced to one year in jail, which was deferred, as well as 100 hours of community service and cognitive behavior counseling. He was also suspended by Oklahoma for a full season.

The conversation surrounding cases like Mixon’s is always difficult. You can’t avoid the stark reality of what he did, especially because it was captured on video. But the NFL is a business, and it is possible for teams to talk themselves into taking a chance on Mixon as he falls on draft day.

“I really think without the incident he’s a top-five pick,” one NFC executive told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel’s Bob McGinn. “He’s probably going to go late first to mid-second. This guy’s just too talented.”

McGinn spoke to several executives around the NFL who have evaluated Mixon, and perspectives vary.

Oh, and there’s one brother of an NFL Pro Bowler, too

(Thanks to NFL.com for its list of college football players with former NFL player fathers.)

LB Hardy Nickerson Jr., Illinois: Nickerson Jr. began his career at Cal, where he played for three seasons and accounted for 246 total tackles. After his junior season, he transferred to Illinois to play under his father, Nickerson Sr., whom Lovie Smith hired last spring. He also played for his father during his last two years of high school. Nickerson enjoyed a 16-year career in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Green Bay Packers. He made it on five Pro Bowl rosters.
